The knowledge of the nuclear spin and parity-dependent level densities
ρ(E, J, π) is important for understanding statistical properties
of nuclei and reaction rates. We review recent methods for calculating
spin and parity-dependent shell model nuclear level using the formalism
of statistical spectroscopy and the exponential convergence method.
