Ovenden (1963) presented evidence for systematic radial-velocity anomalies in 57 Cygni, attributable to an anomalous reflection effect. An independent study is reported that has failed to confirm Ovenden's results. A plate-averaging technique was used to look for the weak high-excitation lines that showed the strongest effect. No convincing evidence was found for the existence of these lines.
