A precise optical position in the FK4 system of the peculiar H alpha emission object SS433 has been derived from long focus plates taken with the 24 in. refractor of the Hamburg Observatory. A comparison with the recently derived interferometric radio position of the suggested compact radio counterpart 1909 + 048 by Seaquist et al. (1979) shows discrepancies in the two coordinates: Delta(alpha)cosine(delta) and Delta(delta). Therefore, there remains a significant position difference of 1.26 arc sec between SS433 and the radio source which, at the supposed distance of approximately 3.5 kpc, corresponds to approximately 4400 AU, with the assumed physical connection between them in doubt.
