The correlation between mean turbulent velocity dispersions in the largest H II regions of late-type galaxies and absolute magnitude of the parent galaxy is reformulated. Revised distance moduli (previously derived from primary and secondary indicators by the Vaucouleurs, 1978a,b) are used, as well as a corrected absolute magnitude on the BT system equal to -13.7 log Vt + (0.00 plus or minus 0.14). The (internal) standard deviation is 0.37 mag, confirming the usefulness of this new distance indicator. A less tight correlation with galaxy diameters is also indicated.
