The Electron Drift Instrument (EDI) measures both electric and magnetic fields by measuring the drift of an emitted and coded electron beam during one or more gyro-periods. This technique has been proven on both Equator-S and CLUSTER-II and is impervious to many interference sources around the spacecraft. In addition, the steer-able electron sensor can also be used as a very high geometric factor instrument to detect fast electron beams. This talk will describe the technique, comparisons with other measurement techniques on CLUSTER, and recent results using EDI.
