We disentangle and study the thin disk component from a mixture of thin and thick disk stars in the solar neighborhood. We investigate the velocity dispersion properties in the plane of the thin disk component with the help of photometric distances. The Schwarzschild approximation for the local distribution function is reconsidered, together with its first few moments, in the context of the potential of the Galaxy. Finally, we confirm the full component velocity vector components of the solar motion relative to the local standard of rest. Our results extend the analysis already started on the velocity distribution function of the thin and thick disk with RAVE data.
