We present evidence that galaxy interactions re-distribute metals internally, leading to changes in nuclear metallicities and metallicity gradients. Using observations and simulations, we show that nuclear metallicities are low compared to galaxies of similar mass, and that radial metallicity gradients are flattened in interacting systems. These results have important consequences for interpreting metallicities at high redshift, when galaxy interactions were frequent.
