MIRI provides JWST with very sensitive imaging (at the diffraction limit of the telescope) and spectroscopy (at spectral resolutions of 100-3000) from 5 to beyond 28 microns. It also includes high performance coronagraphs at specific wavelengths from 10 through 25 microns. The instrument design has now been implemented in a verification model, as well as engineering models of instrument subsystems, all of which have been fully tested. The flight model components are completed or nearing completion and their potential performance is also well understood. The instrument mechanical cooler has been demonstrated and the design of the supporting features of the JWST telescope has been optimized. We use this information to confirm that MIRI should meet its performance specifications. In addition, we display some of the test data and simulations to help potential users visualize what kinds of measurements MIRI will be capable of making.
