We revisit the correlation analysis of a number of multiwavelength
observations of the blazar Markarian 421, and provide a critical
assessment of the standard correlation techniques applied to these data
sets. We present variations on these techniques collected from the
literature, and discuss their suitability for TeV correlation studies.
