Ring Galaxies: Numerical Simulations, Ring Galaxies: Formation
Scientific paper
Ring galaxy formation is studied through the numerical simulation of the collision of two galaxies involving a target galaxy and an intruder galaxy. In distinction with Toomre's work the author uses spiral structure as the distribution function of test stars of the target galaxy disk. This results in the simulated ring structure bearing closer resemblance to that of real ring galaxies than Toomre's simulation does.
