We report 21-cm HI line observations towards the two recently discovered nearby galaxies MB1 and MB2 in Cassiopeia. MB1 was detected, while MB2 was not. The low heliocentric velocity of MB1, 189+/-3km/s, suggests it is a member of the IC 342-Maffei group, and its small line width (60km/s) is in agreement with the optical classification of a late-type spiral (Sd:). Its HI mass (at an assumed distance of 3Mpc) is 2.10^7^Msun_; hence it is HI poor. The low noise of the 21-cm line observation of MB2 yields a 3σ upper limit to its total HI mass of only about ~10^6^Msun_ (assuming a distance of 3Mpc and a linewidth of 100km/s), showing it to be an HI-poor system. A strong Galactic neutral hydrogen signal prevented the detection of a weaker extragalactic profile, though, in the heliocentric radial velocity range of about -155 to 30km/s.
