We present an investigation into the differences between long and short gamma-ray bursts (GRB) using phase correlation. Correlation studies have historically been performed by comparing the nature of the afterglow at a specific time (generally 11 hours post burst). We perform our correlation analysis with consideration to the phases of the so-called "canonical" X-ray light curve, repeating the analysis for every phase. We also examine various parameters of GRBs in an attempt to characterize the possible difference in nature of GRB projenitors. These parameters include T90, redshift, hardness ratio, host galaxy offset, and the presence of extended soft emission during the prompt phase. We compare these parameters for the case of the two different types of short bursts, those that exhibit extended emission and those that do not. Correlation analysis of the X-ray afterglow flux, prompt gamma-ray fluence and optical magnitude are made for both short and long GRBs.
