We have constructed 166 quasar composite spectra from the SDSS DR5 quasar catalog, binned by quasar redshift and luminosity, in order to study correlations among quasar continuum and emission line properties. We find a dependency of the UV spectral index on both quasar luminosity and redshift. We also find that the Baldwin Effect, in which the equivalent width of an emission line is anti-correlated with the continuum luminosity, applies for most of the broad emission lines. We confirm that the Baldwin Effect is closely related to emission line shifts for several lines. In addition, the normalization factors of the Baldwin Effect exhibit significant changes as a function of redshift.
Focusing on the CIV emission line, we have compiled a sample which consists of 372 Type 1 AGNs with optical and X-ray spectra. Using correlation, partial correlation, and regression analyses, we find that the changes of the CIV equivalent widths are controlled not only by UV but also by X-ray emission. This study provides further evidence that the UV and X-ray emissions are closely related.
