The white dwarf EC 20058-5234, first identified in 1994 as a helium atmosphere (DBV) white dwarf pulsator, has been studied extensively since July 1997, commencing with a WET campaign. The combined work has confirmed the object to be a stable low-amplitude pulsator and clearly confirmed it as the hottest known DBV. An important objective of the work is to exploit the star as a unique high-temperature, high-density cosmic laboratory for investigating some key astrophysical topics, including the exciting prospect of measuring the predicted plasmon neutrino cooling flux.
