White dwarfs, and DA white dwarfs in particular, can serve as both intrinsic and extrinsic photometric calibrators for many of the ongoing and planned large optical or IR imaging surveys. It is possible to precisely define a relatively large number of DA white dwarfs as secondary photometric standards, on the HST photometric scale. These stars can then be used as a relatively dense network of secondary calibration standards to frequently monitor photometric output of an individual survey, or as a set of well-defined cross-calibrators between different surveys and different wavelength bands.
