We discuss Spitzer Space Telescope IRS 5 to 35 micron observations of the recurrent nova RS Ophiuchi, obtained over the period 208 to 430 days after the 2006 eruption. These Spitzer IRS data show that the strong line emission and free-free continuum emission reported in the first 100 days post-outburst declined, revealing the presence of silicate emission features at 9.7 and 18 micron. We argue that this silicate dust lies in regions of the red giant wind that are undisturbed by the eruption, and that this dust survives the ultraviolet blast from the eruption. The existence of the former dust may have significant implications for understanding the propagation of the shocks produced by the ejected material through the red giant wind in the rs system.
