The second-order sectorial harmonic of the gravitational potential of the earth, as well as some other sectorial and tesseral harmonics, is derived from the orbital variations of three satellites: 1958 δ2, 1959 α1 and 1959 Eta. In general, the coefficient of the second zonal harmonic determined from the satellites was found to be smaller than that derived from gravity measurements of lunar motions. The existence of odd-order harmonics has been verified. The actual values derived are considered to be preliminary and will be improved when more observations become available.
