Whether or not ultraluminous X-ray sources (ULXs) are intermediate-mass black holes, and how they are connected to Galactic black hole binaries are still open and interesting questions. We will report on the spectral and timing evolution patterns of several bright ULXs, including evidence against the cool disk model in one ULX, the relation between the fast timing and spectral properties, and analysis of ULX spectral evolution in terms of the canonical patterns of Galactic sources.
