Many scientific projects require large computational resources. Fast CPUs, large amounts of memory, huge and reliable file systems, long term storage devices are needed to complete all the steps of a data production, reduction, management, and analysis pipeline. Distributed architectures can provide the necessary power to go through the whole work-flow. We present here the solution adopted for simulating the ESA-Planck mission. The purpose is to test a variety of scientific and instrumental hypotheses in order to evaluate the impact of possible instrumental and environmental effects on the scientific results, and consequently to refine appropriately the data processing algorithms. To achieve this goal, the rich set of shared resources and services provided by the EGEE and DEISA infrastructures have been exploited.
