Based on optical echelle spectra we have determined the main parameters, the atmospheric chemical abundances and the evolutionary status of a sample of peculiar supergiants associated with infrared sources. In the spectra of some post--AGB objects we have revealed strong emission C2 Swan bands and absorption features at the positions of well--known DIBs. An analysis of radial--velocities and intensities led us to the conclusion that these spectral features originate predominantly in the expanding circumstellar envelopes.
