The SNIFS spectrograph on the UH 88-inch telescope will be used to observe comet Tempel 1 in a 6x6 arcsec integral field unit with 0.4 arcsec spatial sampling an spectral coverage from 320 nm - 1000 nm. The goal is to obtain time-resolved images of the inner coma of Tempel 1 in all the strong molecular emission features in this spectral range.
Support for this work was provided through University of Maryland and University of Hawaii subcontract Z667702, which was awarded under prime contract NASW-00004 from NASA.
