The perturbed motion of a space colony at L4 and L5 of the earth-moon system has been studied using the Jet Propulsion Laboratory DE-19 and DE-96 to provide an accurate ephemerides of the solar system for the numerical integration of the equations of motion. Using initial conditions coinciding with L4 and L5 as defined by the elliptic restricted problem of three bodies, apparently stable librational motions are found to exist with an amplitude of 60 deg behind the earth-L5 point line to 30 deg ahead of the line. The libration period for these initial conditions is dependent on the chosen epoch; periods between 800 days and 1300 days have been observed. Furthermore, stability is dependent on the epoch, particularly the relative sun orientation and the earth-moon distance. The results suggest, however, the possibility of less restrictive initial conditions which will produce the librational motion.
