It is found that the ratio of the virial mass to the observed mass for galaxy systems ranging from pairs up to clusters on the average increases monotonically with the system dimensions. It is possible to exclude galaxies as the principal source of 'hidden' mass which is needed for the stationarity of galaxy systems. It is reasoned that if the hidden mass does exist it should be localized in the intergalactic space.
