Scientific paper
It is shown that the matrix notation is the natural one for describing
cosmic ray propagation in the interstellar medium. This remains true
even if energy dependent cross sections and energy loss by ionization is
included. The solutions in this notation are in a form that leads
directly to computational algorithms.
