The evidence of the influence of the B(x) component in solar magnetospheric coordinates of the interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) on magnetopause was obtained from polar ionospheric electric fields. Changes of B(x) from 2 to 8 gammas accounted for a decrease in the magnitude of the convection electric field at the polar cap; when B(z) is larger than zero, the measured dusk to dawn polar cap electric field increases with B(x). The correlations between the amplitude of B(x) and the electric field were examined; it was suggested that the B(x) component of the IMF has an important role in magnetopause reconnection.
