Two types of theoretical model can be used to study the propagation of shock pairs through the ambient solar wind: ordinary fluid-dynamic (OFD) models and magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) models. In the present analysis, the full set of time-dependent MHD equations of motion is solved numerically. The initial conditions are given by a disturbance of specified form and duration near the sun. The coupling between the radial magnetic field and the polar current density is investigated in detail.
