Supernova Remnants play a key role in the studies of the Interstellar Medium and the Galaxy, as a site of heavy element production and possibly as a site of cosmic ray acceleration. X-ray observations of these powerful X-ray sources provide crucial information on the production of these elements as well as on their distribution in the ejecta. They allow us to localise the sites of particle acceleration within the remnant and to constrain the efficiency of the acceleration process at the shock. I will present recent results from XMM-Newton and Chandra satellites on these issues.
