Very broad shallow wings (total width ≍40 Å) of the Balmer lines Hα and Hβ of the YY Orionis star S CrA were measured from an electronographic spectrogram (dispersion 38 A/mm) and from two photographic coudé spectrograms (dispersion 20 Å/mm). The observed broad wings are interpreted in terms of noncoherent electron scattering of line photons in the infalling envelope of the low mass protostar S CrA. A crude model was adopted to fit the line profiles. From the fitting procedure we estimated the mean electron temperature of the shell to Te ≍ 7000-8000 K. The density at the inner boundary of the infalling envelope was estimated to qs ≍ 0.9 10-12 g cm-3.
