The RATAN-600 Radiotelescope variable-profile antenna has 900 reflector elements arranged in a 579 m circle. The elements are approximately 7.4 m by 2 m, so that the total reflector surface is approximately 10,000 sq m. While an element precision of 0.4 mm (rms value) has been obtained in 1976, an improvement to 0.2-0.3 mm is hoped for. The 1976 precision permits observation at 8 mm, while the improved precision would permit observation at 4 mm. At 8 mm the corresponding HPBW of the antenna lobe (in the azimuth) is 5 arc seconds. The operation of the telescope is described with attention to the role of the subreflectors.
