The accuracy of representing ephemerides of artificial and natural
satellites by linear combinations of Chebyshev polynomials forming an
orthogonal system is estimated by means of several typical examples. The
best least-squares fit by low-degree polynomials provides quite good
accuracy. A set of computer programs has been prepared for this problem.
