Photographic photometry of 15.75 square degrees of sky near galactic longitude 140 deg and the galactic equator is analyzed to investigate galactic structure there. The photometry and data from the literature indicate no discontinuity in the local arm of the Galaxy, but show that the Perseus arm as traced optically is partially interrupted for tens of degrees. An explanation in terms of the density-wave theory of spiral structure is suggested.
