A theoretical analysis is presented of electric fields and currents in auroral arcs and rays under conditions of ion-acoustic turbulence of the ionospheric plasma in the height range 80-1000 km. The computed structure of longitudinal currents in auroral rays agrees well with experimental observations for turbulence levels of 0.01-1.0. Consideration is given to whether or not electric fields and magnetic bays in the presence of turbulence in the auroral ionosphere are generated by the dynamo effect of the ionospheric wind.
