The velocity field of B stars over a large volume in the solar neighborhood is investigated by using a model based on the local rotation and local deformation tensors. FK4 data, the proper motions of 193 giant and supergiant B stars in the FK4 system, and photometric distances are employed in the analysis. The results show that the motion of the B stars differs significantly from what would be expected if these stars merely participated in differential galactic rotation with the Oort constants A and B. It is concluded that the kinematical peculiarities of the B stars are evidently attributable to large-scale local motions whose nature is not yet understood.
