The iron abundance for NGC 7027 is used in a differential procedure to determine gas-phase iron abundances in five high-excitation planetary nebulae; recombination lines of carbon ions provide carbon abundances for the planetary nebulae. The five planetary nebulae show deficiencies of iron in the gas phase, suggesting that efficient condensation of iron into grains takes place. In contrast to the case of iron, most of the carbon totals may be in the gas phase. In addition, empirical collision strengths of Fe (+3), (+5) and (+6) are derived from the line intensities of the NGC 7027 nebula.
