The purpose of this 32cm telescope is to study astrophysical objects such as scattering halos. An optimum performance is therefore essential (high resolution, low scatter). The basic principles of the operation of the telescope are described. The results of tests carried out on mirror components and on the overall system are given. Optical sources of various wavelengths were employed; a specially developed high vacuum system with a variable wavelength source was used for the X-ray measurements. The image quality characteristics observed are well within those expected considering surface roughness, scattering, image distortion, reflectivity, and off-axis behavior.
