The frequency of occurrence and the progenitors of supernova remnants (SNR) in the Magellanic Clouds are explored. A mean value of the energy-at-explosion-over-surrounding-density at 5 times 10 to the 51 ergs cu cm was adopted, and it was shown that the best fit value of the mean interval between SN explosions is 300 plus or minus 100 years in agreement with predictions from statistics of supernovae in external galaxies. Spectroscopic data was used to explain the origin of the larger rings in the MC often proposed as SNR. The existence of a previous stellar wind or supernova blast wave is suggested as a way for explaining the absence of any detectable emission inside the rings.
