Results are reported for a kinematical analysis of a sample of 1479 OB stars with available distances and radial velocities. These results are shown to support the interpretation that runaway stars can be low-mass old-disk-population stars in advanced stages of evolution, similar to the UV-bright stars in globular clusters. It is concluded that high-velocity-dispersion (HVD) stars are most likely old-disk-population objects that mimic the spectroscopic characteristics of young OB stars and might be closely related to the nuclei of planetary nebulae. However, the possibilities are not excluded that some HVD stars might be young runaways produced by supernova explosions and that runaway stars might be related to low-mass supernovae, perhaps those of type I.
