Statistical properties of supernovae (SN) are reviewed with respect to the frequencies of type I and type II supernovae in different types of galaxy and different volumes of space, progenitor stars, and luminosities. The frequencies of type I SN in E, S0, Sa, Sb, Sc, Im, and amorphous galaxies, and of type II SN in Sb and Sc galaxies, are estimated along with the frequency of SN in the Galaxy, the surface and space densities of SN in the solar neighborhood, the expected numbers of SN in the Local Group and the 'Local Supergalaxy', and the space density of SN in the 'Local Supergalaxy'. It is suggested that all stars with main-sequence masses of more than 4 to 5 solar masses explode as type II SN, while some disk-population stars with masses of no more than 4 solar masses die as type I SN. Relative and absolute calibrations of SN luminosities and the role of type I SN as standard candles are considered.
