A fitting procedure based on standard catalog positions which matches the spherical Schmidt focal surface is used to register Schmidt Telescope photographs for measurement of stellar images by automatic measuring machine. A series of transformation and fitting routines, including precession by matrix methods, conversion to and from right ascension (RA) and declination (D), least-squares fitting for linear regression in two variables, conversion of (RA,D) to Wesselink and Harvard (x,y) coordinate systems, and the use of standard coordinates and special 'Schmidt Standard Coordinates' to relate (RA,D) to (x,y) coordinates, relative to an assumed plate center were established on computer. Fifteen stars were used to establish by linear regression the transformation to the measured x,y system in mm units. Their positions were reduced with 3 unknowns, and the least-squares solution gave rms deviations in x and y of .0064 and .0079 mm respectively, corresponding to 0.43 and 0.53 arc sec.
