Solar wind investigations using high-apogee satellites of the Prognoz type are discussed. Various onboard instruments and their design and operation are described: the RIP-803 energy-mass analyzer, the RIP-804 ion spectrometer, the Kalipso spectrometer for simultaneous measurements of electron and ion spectra (to 17 keV), the RIP-801 proton spectrometer (to 7 keV), and the RIE-204 electron spectrometer (30-150 eV). Some preliminary results of Prognoz data analysis are reported, and solar wind data from other satellite programs are reviewed.
