Algorithms for setting up of a real system of point masses that approximates the gravitational field of an axisymmetric planet are considered. The algorithms are based on a known expansion of the gravitational potential in terms of spatial spherical functions. Numerical examples of a system of masses are presented for the case in which the earth's field is approximated.
