Areas of research in the broadly defined field of astrophysics are discussed in the light of significant results and advances. Information from the Magellan spacecraft are discussed which show that the surface of Venus is active but devoid of subduction. Unexpected flare activity observed in Comet P/Halley suggest that important processing takes place at more than 10 AU from the sun, and possible explanations are presented. Analytical and observational data regarding convective overshoot in astrophysical objects demonstrate the dubious interpretation and necessity of these phenomena. Also examined in the overview are the implications of blue stragglers on understanding the main sequence, the notable proliferations of recycled pulsars and X-ray binaries, and the influence of microlensing. Descriptions are given of significant data regarding unusual objects and recent data that confirm or throw into question widely held hypotheses.
