Individual pits up to 2 sq m in area at a depth of 0.5 m near Crater No. 2 of the Kaali meteorite were investigated with the goal of studying the distribution of meteorite material with depth. Fragments in the pits near the crater are nonuniformly distributed with depth and form two clearly defined maxima, the presence of which is explained by the presence of two different types of fragments: those from the crater wall which has been destroyed over a long time, and those ejected directly from the crater during the explosion. In a pit 23 m from the edge of the crater, a piece of dolomite containing shatter cones was discovered in the upper layer belonging to the eroded wall. The velocity of the meteorite before penetrating the earth is estimated at about 12 km/sec.
