Model line profiles are fitted to observations of two line-profile-variable B stars, Iota Her (B3 IV) and 10 Lac (O8 III), which straddle the Beta Cep strip. The periods observed in the two stars are confirmed; the lengths of the periods and the success in profile fitting suggest that the observed profile variations can only be identified with g-mode direct traveling waves. Both stars are shown to be complex nonradial pulsators capable of changing their amplitudes and periods on a time scale of months. The apparent documentation in Iota Her of a change from one mode to its harmonic in 2 to 3 days is discussed, and the observed variations in line strength are correlated with pulsational phase for strong lines of several ions. These variations are attributed to changes in a 'microturbulent' velocity. The results also indicate that stars of 7 to 8 solar masses may prefer to pulsate with basic periods of 10 to 14 hr, that 10 Lac may pulsate in a harmonic of a longer basic period, and that the inclinations of both Iota Her and 10 Lac appear to be large (sin i approximately equal to unity).
