Simultaneous spectroscopic and UBV photometric observations of YY Ori performed over a two-week period are analyzed. The results confirm those of Walker's (1972) previous study in showing that the phenomena exhibited by YY Ori are complex and result from independently operating processes which occur in different parts of the system and its environs. Specifically, the observations indicate that: (1) most of the light variation probably results from obscuration by remnants of the prestellar dust cloud; (2) the region and material producing the emission spectrum are generally different from those responsible for the light variations; (3) the infalling gas responsible for the inverse P Cygni absorptions is different from the material producing either the variable absorption or the emission spectrum; (4) the UV excess and blue continuum are probably the result of Balmer and Paschen continuous emission; and (5) the onset or cessation of the inverse P Cygni phenomenon takes place in less than one day.
