A model is presented for the radio outbursts of Cygnus X-3 which accounts for the major radio features. The object is assumed to be a short-period binary undergoing mass transfer, and the outbursts are produced when nova-like explosions produce shock waves in a dense stellar wind. The energetic particles required to produce the radio emission are accelerated at the shock front. The magnetic field required to explain the radio emission is the stellar field of one of the stars, modified by the influence of the dense stellar wind.
