The authors analyze the cosmological effects of axion decays a→2γ in a low-energy model of broken gauge SU(3)H family symmetry with associated global U(1)H Peccei-Quinn symmetry, in which the main source of axions in the Universe is the early neutrino decay ντ→νμa with subsequent νμ→νea decay. The authors show that in this model for ma ≍ 3 eV the electromagnetic background due to axion decay is in good agreement with the observed backgrounds in the optical, ultraviolet, and infrared regions. For z ≡ 1000 the decay photons may ionize a significant fraction of matter, lowering thereby the anisotropy of the thermal electromagnetic background.
