Data on the characteristics of the thermal infrared radiation of Venus, acquired through earth based and spaceborne (Venera-probe) measurements, are analyzed. The mean value of the spherical albedo of the planet amounts to 0.766 + or - 0.018 (the effective temperature is 228 K). The equatorial and latitudinal distributions of outgoing radiation are examined. It is suggested that the appearance of large scale inhomogeneities in the thermal radiation field associated with a drastic enrichment of the atmosphere by submicron particles can be explained by a burst of the volcanic activity of Venus during 1977-1978.
