The author considers exact solutions of the quasi-hydrodynamical equations which describe periodic fast magnetosonic waves propagating in a non-isothermal plasma (Te ≫ Ti) at an arbitrary angle (not too close to π/2) to the external magnetic field. In this considerations the author uses an effective potential depending on a single parameter. He finds the conditions for which the ion dispersion cannot stop the nonlinear steepening of the wave and for which there appears an internal rotational discontinuity in its structure. He compares the results with the observations of low-frequency waves in the region in front of the bow shock wave of planets and comets.
