Using Wood's model the authors have reanalysed the recent photoelectric lightcurves of the short-period eclipsing binaries ST Car, RY Ind and BH Vir, whose general properties have not yet been discussed adequately. Unlike previous views favouring an Algol-like or an unevolved detached nature, ST Car and RY Ind appear to be related to the contact systems. As regards the detached binary BH Vir, its fundamental properties, generally regarded as somewhat anomalous, are not proved to differ significantly from those of main-sequence stars.
